Who: All are welcome at this event, but everyone must register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/bridge-together-golden-gate-registration-29811334504 before attending. The organizers have gathered a following of over 24,000 in their Facebook group, and need at least 3,000 to come to the demonstration in order to stretch the human chain across the whole bridge.
What & Why: The goal of the event is to create the very first human chain across the entire Golden Gate Bridge. According to the organizers, it will be a “collaborative, grassroots, community-based demonstration and performance art piece.” They have been clear that this event is not a march or protest, but rather an event that hopes to promote unity, love, and inclusiveness within the community. By standing together, unified against hate, the organizers hope to spread the message that the “hateful rhetoric of the incoming president and his administration will not be tolerated.” The organizers have also encouraged that all in attendance wear purple and bring a yard of purple fabric or ribbon, as a sign of unity and anti-bullying.
When: The event will take place on Friday, January 20th at 10 a.m. Those who have signed up to stand on the bridge itself should arrive by 8:30 a.m.
Where: The demonstration will take place on the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California, and in the surrounding area.
